Install an app on your device

Any published app can be installed on your device as a Progressive Web App (PWA). The app gets its own icon on your home screen, desktop or app launcher and opens in its own window, without the browser's address bar and tabs around it. This works well for apps people use every day, such as a warehouse scanner helper on a tablet.

Nothing needs to be turned on in App Builder, and builders do not have to do anything. Installing is done by the person who uses the app.

Install an app

  1. Open the app from the Apps list (Start app), or from your navigation menu if you marked it as a favourite. Installing only works from the running app, not from the editor preview.
  2. Use your browser's install option:
    • Chrome or Edge on a computer or Android: click the install icon in the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install (or Install app).
    • Safari on iPhone or iPad: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Confirm. The app appears with the Vince app icon and the app's name.

The exact wording depends on your browser and version.

What to expect

  • The installed app opens the same app you installed, in its own window.
  • You sign in the same way as in the browser. Your permissions and the app's in-app roles apply as usual.
  • Users always get the published version, so when a builder publishes a new version, the installed app shows it the next time it opens. Nothing needs to be reinstalled.
  • The icon is the same for every app. The name under it is the app's name, so give your apps clear names.
  • An installed app needs a connection to Vince Platform, like the browser version.

To remove the app, uninstall it the way you remove any other app on your device.
