Input Widget
The Input Widget adds a free-text search box to the dashboard. As the user types, it queries the connected data source in real time and updates any linked widgets with the results. It is typically the primary search interface that drives the rest of a dashboard.
Modes of operation
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Custom Table | Searches a static or pre-loaded dataset. Supports visual column configuration, filtering, and filter groups. |
| Workflow | Executes a backend workflow or API call with each keystroke. Use this for live lookups against external systems. |
The available configuration panels differ by mode:
| Panel | Custom Table | Workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Data | ✅ | ✅ |
| Appearance | ✅ | ✅ |
| Details | ✅ | — |
| Filter | ✅ | — |
| Workflows | — | ✅ |

employee_gender = MaleANDtenure_years < 20 - Combine: Group 1 OR Group 2
| Control | Action |

Workflows panel (Workflow mode only)
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Connected Workflow | The workflow to execute on each keystroke |
| Trigger Expression | JSON payload sent to the workflow — use $linked as a placeholder for the user's typed input, e.g. {"header": {}, "body": "$linked"} |
| Data Expression | Extracts the array of results from the workflow response |
| Description Expression | Sets the text shown for each result in the dropdown |
| Details Data Expression | Optional — data passed to linked detail widgets on selection |

When using Workflow mode, test your trigger and data expressions against a real workflow response before publishing the dashboard. An incorrect expression will result in an empty dropdown with no error shown to the user.
