SharePoint Deployment

caution

This deployment method is not recommended. Deploy VXL Live using the M365 Admin Center instead. SharePoint deployment has known limitations, is not tested by Vince, and is provided as-is for environments where no other option is available.

Known limitations

  • The add-in manifest requires manual updates whenever a new version is released — there is no automatic update mechanism.
  • VXL Live becomes available to all users in the SharePoint tenant with no option to restrict access to specific people or groups.
  • Users must manually add the add-in to Excel — there is no centrally managed push deployment.
  • SharePoint deployments are not tested by Vince and are unsupported beyond this guide.

Setting up the SharePoint App Catalog

  1. Open the SharePoint Admin Center.
  2. Navigate to More features → Apps.
  3. Provision the SharePoint App Catalog if one does not already exist — this may take several minutes.
  4. Once provisioned, open the App Catalog and select classic experience.
  5. Note your tenant-specific catalog URL, which follows this format:
    https://<TENANT NAME>.sharepoint.com/sites/<APP CATALOGUE NAME>/
  6. Navigate to Apps for Office within the App Catalog.
  7. Upload the VXL Live .xml manifest file.

VXL Live will become available after upload. Full availability across the tenant can take up to 48 hours.

User setup — Excel for the web

  1. Open an Excel workbook in the browser.
  2. Select Home → Add-ins → + More Add-ins.
  3. Go to the My Organization tab.
  4. Find and add VXL Live.
note

If VXL Live does not appear under My Organization, try enabling third-party cookies or disabling tracking prevention in your browser settings.

User setup — Excel desktop client

  1. Open Excel and go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings.
  2. Select Trusted Add-in Catalogs.
  3. Paste your tenant-specific catalog URL into the Catalog URL field.
  4. Click Add Catalog, then OK.
  5. Restart Excel.
  6. Go to Insert → My Add-ins → Shared Folder to find and add VXL Live.
